Purpose

Authorize GSST to develop, design, construct multiuse rec trail; negotiation of rec trail bridge agreements with Dane County, and; execution of agreements with Dane County for multiuse rec trail bridge.

Background

Background: The Prairie du Sac/Sauk City and Badger Units of the Great Sauk State Trail have been substantially completed and one of the next steps is building a multiuse recreational bridge over the Wisconsin River to connect the Great Sauk State Trail with the proposed Walking Iron Trail in Dane County. Sauk County and Dane County wish to enter into an agreement to begin development of the bridge.  This resolution authorizes the Great Sauk Trail Commission to coordinate development, design, and construction of a bridge, authorizes the Sauk County Board Chair the Great Sauk Trail Commission Chair, and Sauk County staff to negotiate agreements with Dane County for the shared development and construction of the bridge, and authorizes the execution of agreements for a multiuse recreational bridge connecting the Great Sauk State Trail with the proposed Walking Iron Trail in Dane County.  

Resolution Body

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Sauk County Board of Supervisors, met in regular session, that the Great Sauk Trail Commission is authorized to coordinate development, design and construction of a multiuse recreational bridge connecting the Great Sauk State Trail with the proposed Walking Iron Trail in Dane County; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Sauk County Board Chair, the Great Sauk Trail Commission Chair, and Sauk County staff are authorized to negotiate agreements with Dane County for the shared development and construction of a multiuse recreational bridge connecting the Great Sauk State Trail with the proposed Walking Iron Trail in Dane County; and,

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that, subject to specific funding authorizations, the Sauk County Board Chair and the Great Sauk Trail Commission Chair are authorized to execute agreements with Dane County for the shared development, design and construction of a multiuse recreational bridge connecting the Great Sauk State Trail with the proposed Walking Iron Trail in Dane County.

Fiscal Note:  Sauk County originally appropriated $520,000.00 toward construction of the Great Sauk State Trail. The remaining balance of $389,513.00 was carried forward to the 2019 budget by Resolution 34-2019.
