Purpose

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Sauk County Board of Supervisors,

met in special session, that the Great Sauk Trail Commission is authorized to begin development and construction of a multiuse recreational bridge connecting the Great Sauk State Trail with the proposed Walking Iron Trail in Dane County, to include a feasibility study, design plans, and construction of the bridge, consistent with receipt of necessary funding; and,

 

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Sauk County is authorized to enter into an agreement with Dane County to develop and construct the multiuse recreational bridge; and,

 

            BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that expenditure of $40,000.00 from carry forward funds for the Great Sauk State Trail is authorized. 

 

Background

Background: The Prairie du Sac/Sauk City and Badger Units of the Great Sauk State Trail have been substantially completed and one of the next steps is building a multiuse recreational bridge to connect the Great Sauk State Trail with the proposed Walking Iron Trail in Dane County. In collaboration with the Great Sauk Trail Commission, Sauk County and Dane County wish to enter into an agreement to oversee the development of the bridge.  The project will begin with a feasibility study, and Dane County and Sauk County agree to each contribute up to $40,000 for the cost of the feasibility study.   The Sauk County Board of Supervisors originally appropriated and designated $520,000 toward construction of the Great Sauk State Trail, with the remaining balance of $389,513.07 carried forward by Resolution 34-2019. 

 

This resolution provides authority to begin the process to develop and construct a multiuse recreational bridge, which will include a feasibility study, design plans, and construction of the bridge, contingent upon receipt of necessary funding.  This resolution also authorizes Sauk County to enter an agreement with Dane County for such.  This resolution further authorizes expenditure of $40,000 from carry forward funds.
