Purpose

Resolution Authorizing Sauk County to Submit to the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) a Trail Permit to Occupy and Use Certain Rail Property Owned by WisDOT to Construct the Great Sauk State Trail to Goette Road and to Authorize Construction of said Trail by the Sauk County Highway Department.

Background

BACKGROUND: As established by the Great Sauk State Trail Master Plan – Sauk Prairie Segment and Badger Unit Map therein, dated April 29, 2015, Sauk County desires to build a trail connection to the public right-of-way known as Goette Road, located in the Town of Merrimac. The current Great Sauk State Trail dead ends approximately 2,600 feet before reaching Goette Road. To complete the trail connection, WisDOT requires that Sauk County, Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, LLC enter into a Trail Permit agreement that specifies the conditions by which Sauk County abide by to construct and maintain a trail adjacent to an active rail line (Exhibit A).
