AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF LAND RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT TO SIGN AN HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION AGREEMENT WITH DANE COUNTY

Background: Sauk County recognizes that proper disposal of hazardous waste is important to the safety and well-being of County residents and the collection and proper dispose of hazardous wastes serves to protect the natural resources of the County. Sauk County has supported the Clean Sweep Program and hazardous waste collection events held in the County for over twenty years.
Starting in 2020, the Land Resources and Environment Department reduced the number of Clean Sweep events hosted from two (2) events to one (1) event. Due to the events being limited, alternative options have been sought after to allow residents opportunities to properly dispose of hazardous wastes. Dane County offers a Hazardous Waste Collection voucher program to Columbia County and has extended the offer to Sauk County as an alternative to an organized Clean Sweep event. After obtaining a voucher for the Land Resources and Environment Department, Sauk County residents can visit the Dane County Clean Sweep facility, pay a $10 entry fee, and then be permitted to dispose of their hazardous wastes. Sauk County will be responsible to pay $65 per voucher remitted. The proposed voucher program provides a low-cost service to County residents who are not able to attend the annual Clean Sweep event. The terms and conditions of the
voucher program are set forth within the Hazardous Waste Collection Agreement attached as Appendix A.
