Purpose

Continue to support the Clean Sweep hazardous waste collection events held in Sauk County.

Background

Background: Sauk County recognizes that proper disposal of hazardous wastes is important to the safety and well-being of County residents and the collection and proper disposal of hazardous wastes serves to protect the natural resources of the County. Sauk County has supported the Clean Sweep Program and hazardous waste collection events held in the County for over twenty years. The Land Resources and Environment Department hosts two (1) Clean Sweep Event as well as several Ag Plastic events throughout the year in an effort to assist residents with the proper disposal of hazardous wastes. The Clean Sweep Grant Program through DATCP helps to defray the expense of disposing of the collected materials and provides a free service to County residents that would otherwise be costly to individual households and helps to protect the natural resources of Sauk County.

Budget Status (Other/External Sources):

Fiscal Note:  The grant application would provide funding for the 2022 Budget.  Once awarded, the money would be included in the 2022 Budget of offset the cost of the Clean Sweep event.  Not applying for or receiving the grant could raise the levy impact of the Land Resources and Environment Department by approximately $13,000.
