 Wednesday, August 26, 2015 – 3:00 p.m.

Wisconsin Governors Conference Workshop

 

Meeting called to order and certified Open Meeting notice by Capt. Mike Stoddard.

 

Members in attendance:

Capt. Mike Stoddard - Sauk County Sheriff’s Dept.

Sheriff Chip Meister  – Sauk County Sheriff’s Dept.

Wendy Carns – Sauk County Sheriff’s Dept.

Kevin Stieve – Baraboo Fire Dept.

Robert Bott – WisDOT - BOTS

Jack Meegan – Concerned Citizen

Brad Byom – WisDOT La Crosse

Sgt. Gerald Grimsled – Lake Delton PD

Jeremiah Johnson – WI State Patrol

Jason A. Holtz – WI State Patrol

Motion by Meegan, seconded by Sechler to adopt the agenda.

Motion carried.

Motion by Grimsled, seconded by Meister to approve minutes of the previous meeting.

Correspondence:

   1.     Notice School Bus Stop Ahead signs had been installed on USH 12.

   2.     Request for School Bus Stop Ahead signs 8144 CTH B location – Highway Department to check into request.

 

Public Comment:

Sgt. Bucky Grimsled requested WisDOT review bike lane markings on STH 23 and the frontage roads – Brad Byom, WisDOT will review pavement markings.

Jeremiah Johnson, WI State Patrol, asked about stopping requirements at cross walks located on USH 12 between Lake Delton and Wisconsin Dells with flashing red warning lights.

Robert Bott , WisDOT – BOTS, commended all Sauk County Law Enforcement agencies for their performance and working together on safety projects.

 

Review Sauk County Quarterly Reports & Statistics:

Capt. Stoddard reviewed Quarterly Reports.

Five fatalities as of 8/26/2015.

Also reported on serious accident on STH 154 –camper struck Amish buggy – four received injuries, no fatalities.

 

Review WisDOT Quarterly Reports & Statistics:

Robert Bott reported fatalities are up 13.6% statewide for first 6 months of 2015.

-343 compared to 302 for 2014. State 5 year average is 341 fatalities for the same period

Discussed Legislative bills of interest for 2015-2016

Act 42: Non functioning traffic signals.

AB 207/SB 156: Warning lights on emergency vehicles.

AB 171/SB 152: Head phones usage while operating a motor vehicle.

AB 198/SB 135: Cell phone usage in construction zones.

AB 280: Displaying front license plate.

AB 72/SB 10: Prohibiting sale of powder alcohol.

AB 306/SB 225: Golf cart crossings on highways.

 

Wisconsin State Patrol Law of the Month:

Stopping for school buses with the start of new school year.

 

Bott also demonstrated Community Maps Wisconsin TSC Crash Mapping Site usage.

Brad Byom, WisDOT, discussed cable guard project on I90/94 median, and School Bus Stop Ahead signs that had been installed on USH 12.
