Details for the May 12, 2014 special meeting were finalized.
Owner Direct Purchase
Discussion of advantages and potential drawbacks of owner direct purchasing. Two disadvantages are 1. It does not absolve the requirement to bid; and 2. Direct purchase materials have to go back to manufacturer of supplied material rather than the general in case of quality concerns. The savings outweigh potential pitfalls. Motion by Schauf, second by Stieve to move forward with owner direct purchasing for this project. Motion carried
Design and timeline – Science Facility
The project is on time and budget is close to target (potential for over-run). Variance in budget is detailed below. Fume hoods which run at about $60,000 per unit will be accounted for as a FF&E expenditure.
Budget
Construction costs are running at (per square foot remodel costs at $50 - $60 per square foot and the new construction around $250/sq. ft.); 14,000 per square feet of new construction; and 11,250 per square feet of renovation. There is currently $3,970,953 available for construction – it is estimated that bids will potentially come in $200,000 to $500,000 above the estimated budget. Drivers that are pushing the cost up: 1. Case work is more expensive than originally thought; 2. Additional cost for sunscreen; 3. Renovation scope increased to maintain continuity; 4. Structure of the building – steel – increased with the inclusion of an accessible green roof.
June 15 is the release of all bid documents. There will be a bid opening with closed session scheduled for July 17, 2014.
Upcoming meeting(s): May 15, 2014
Motion by Schauf, second by Wedekind, to adjourn. Motion carried.
Respectfully submitted;
Kathryn A. Schauf, Administrative Coordinator
