Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee
October 11, 2011
The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 09:30 am, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.

1. Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 9:30 am
2. Agenda: Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.
3. Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Sinklair, seconded by Halfen approve the minutes from previous meetings on September 13, 2011. Motion carried.

Letter from Department of Corrections on reduction of inmate beds

7. Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update:
Animal Shelter took in 63 dogs and adopted/reclaimed 55 dogs. They also took in 139 cats and adopted out 124 in the month of September.
The Animal Shelter had a total of 47 calls and picked up 24 dogs and 16 cats
The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 6 bite cases; 5 dogs and 1 cat.
2012 Calendars will be available this month.
November 13th will be our Holiday Open House.
8. Review and approve September 2011, expenses for Coroner:
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for September 2011, in the amount of $4,162.88. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
9. Review and approve September 2011, expenses for Sheriff:
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Sheriff’s Department expenses for September 2011 in the amount of $75,906.52. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
10. Consideration and resolution regarding Inmate Medical Healthcare in the Jail.
Motion by Halfen, seconded by Tollaksen. Motion Carried.
11. Consideration and resolution Approving a Request to Apply for Aid to Law Enforcement with Wisconsin Ho-Chunk Lands within Sauk County.
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen. Motion Carried.
12. Consideration and resolution Authorizing Contracting with Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP to Conduct an Organizational Analysis and Assessment of the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department.
Committee would like to have a special meeting regarding the Request for Proposal.
Halfen stated he didn’t receive a copy of the Request for Proposal. Kathy advised that she emailed the Request for Proposal to all LEC members after the August meeting.
Sinklair believes an overall study of the Justice System should be discussed.
13. Sheriff’s Report.
Number of Calls Report handed out. 5,610 calls for service in September 2011
Overtime for September 2011 2,455.25 hrs.
There was 77 Prisoner Transports in September 2011.
Prisoner Transport cost for Juveniles was $4515.30 for transport. Have not received housing bill for August or September
Civil Process 181 papers served in September 2011
Two thank you letters from citizens on the car care TRIAD clinic
Electronic monitoring billed out $3,740.00 in fees and was invoiced for $1,210.00 for a profit of $2,530.00 for month of September. There was 220 offender days.
Two letters from Michael Witt reference Deputy Papara and Deputy Brooks great service in the Jail.
Community Service Hours for 2011 Year to date are 10,725.75 hours
14. Adjournment
The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for November 8, 2011 at 09:30 am. Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen, to adjourn the meeting at 11:05 am. Motion Carried.
