Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee
June 12, 2012
The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 05:30 pm, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.
Members Present: Stevens, Johnson, Halfen, Tollaksen. Nobs

1. Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 5:40 pm
2. Agenda: Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to adopt the agenda as amended moving public comment to under number 10. Motion carried.
3. Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Halfen, seconded by Tollaksen approve the amended minutes from previous meeting May 8, 2012. Motion carried.
4. Communications:
Letter from Lake Delton Chief Dorner thanking us for the assistance provided to them for the Automotion Detail.
Letter in regards to the medical care in the Jail. Halfen recommends forwarding this to our Corporation Counsel.

7. Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update:
Animal Shelter took in 51 dogs and adopted/reclaimed 41 dogs. They also took in 130 cats and adopted out/transferred out 15 in the month of May. Also took in a blackbird, a dove, 6 raccoons, a robin, 2 rabbits, and 2 squirrels.
The Animal Shelter had a total of 61 calls and picked up 23 dogs and 35 cats
The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 20 bite cases; 6 cats and 14 dogs.
8. Review and approve May 2012, expenses for Coroner:
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for May 2012, in the amount of $4,356.87. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
9. Review and approve May 2012, expenses for Sheriff:
Motion by Halfen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Sheriff’s Department expenses for May 2012 in the amount of $118,264.46. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
10. Discussion and Consideration of Strategic Review Form:
Committee Chair offered to allow any County Supervisor to speak that would like to.
Supervisor Kriegl wants dollar amounts tracked as to the potential savings.
Supervisor Dietz asked about converting MUNIS reports into excel.
Supervisor Dawson asked why Community Service hours were going down. Sheriff advised that as working Huber inmates goes up we have less available Huber inmates for community service.

13. Sheriff’s Report.
Door message handed out to Spring Green residences the first week of June due to several burglaries in the area.
Number of Calls Report handed out. 7,109 calls for service in May 2012.
Overtime for May 2012– 1,056.5 hrs.
There was 127 Prisoner Transports in May 2012.
Prisoner Transport cost for 13 Juveniles was $3,396.80 for transport. Housing bill for May was $875.00 for a total cost of $4,271.80.
Civil Process papers served in May 2012 – 182 papers.
Year to date budget handed out.
Housing Year to Date billing handed out. $170,238.58
EM Report for May – Total of 540 offender days. Collected $9,180.00 in fees and was invoiced $2,062.80 for a profit of $7,117.20.
The Jail now has an electronic law library to eliminate the need to subscribe to law books.
The Jail has changed over the Commissary Vendor from Swanson Cobra to Steller.

The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for July 12, 2012 at 05:30 pm. Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Krueger, to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 pm. Motion Carried.
