Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee


March 8, 2011
The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 09:30 am, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.

1. Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 09:30 AM.

2. Agenda: Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen, to adopt the amended agenda. Motion carried.

3. Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Sinklair, seconded by Halfen approve the minutes from previous meetings on February 8, 2011. Motion carried.

7. Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update:
Animal Shelter took in 26 dogs and adopted/reclaimed 31 dogs. They also took in 32 cats and adopted out 20 in the month of February.

The Animal Shelter had a total of 20 calls and picked up 11 dogs and 9 cats
The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 5 bite cases; 3 dogs and 2 cats.


8. Review and approve February 2011, expenses for Coroner:
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for February 2011, in the amount of $5,283.63. Bills discussed. Motion carried.

Coroner Hahn advised that his fuel budget may run over with the price of gasoline.

9. Review and approve February 2011, expenses for Sheriff:
Motion by Halfen, seconded by Tollaksen, to approve payment of the Sheriff’s Department expenses for February 2011 in the amount of $92,197.36. Bills discussed. Motion carried.


10. Discussion on overrun for Sheriff’s Office.
At this time we have an estimated shortfall of $108,822.00. Committee stated no further need for this to be an agenda item in future months.

11. Consider and approval of Resolution Approving the Purchase of a Network Attached Storage Device.

Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen. Motion Carried.
Committee would like an additional breakdown of costs attached to the Resolution.

12. Sheriff’s Report.
Number of Calls Report handed out. 4,473 calls for service in February 2011.
February Capital Detail
Ho-Chunk Click or Ticket Grant monies awarded to Sheriff’s Department.
Overtime for February 2011 1,082 hrs
No EM report at this time.
Prisoner Transport 74 prisoner transports for February 2011
Currently we are trying to get a computer set up for the Huber Center for inmates to search for jobs online.
The Sheriff’s Office has joined the WI VINE Program for victim notification.
Prisoner Transport cost and housing costs for Juveniles $9,724.66.
Sheriff Meister advised that our Department has met with the DOC several times over the last month. The State currently has 300 to 400 open beds in the prisoner system. The State plans on pulling back their prisoners to fill the empty beds. Marty Ordinans advised we would see a decrease in our State inmate numbers.
Today we have 49 rentals between DOC (24), ES (20) and USMS (5).

Rob Sinklair would like an agenda item on next month’s agenda -Discussion on Inmate Rental Population and revenues associated with rental beds. The committee agreed to include this item under the Sheriff’s Report.

Discussion on night time meeting for either May or June. Committee would like May 10, 2011 at 6pm.

13. Adjournment
The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for April 12, 2011 at 09:30 am. Motion by Halfen, seconded by Tollaksen, to adjourn the meeting Motion Carried.
