Minutes of Meeting
Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee
December 14, 2010
The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at 09:30 am, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.

Others Present: R. Meister, M. Hafemann, K. Fults, R. Zuch, J. Fry, G. Hahn, B. Hinze, Linda Ellen, Sharon Terry, T. Kriegl
1. Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 09:30 AM.
2. Agenda: Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to adopt the amended agenda. Motion carried.
3. Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Sinklair, seconded by Tollaksen approve the minutes from previous meetings on November 9, 2010. Motion carried.
4. Communications:
Letters from DOT for 2 grants each in the amount of $25,000 for Speed and Alcohol
Letter from Mim Olsen announcing her retirement as of December 15, 2010.
Letter from previous inmate in regards to temperature in the Jail.
Letter from a young child in regards to an accidental 911 call.
Letter from Ron Nora in support of Detective Joel Vodak.

7. Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update:
Animal Shelter took in 45 dogs and adopted/reclaimed 44 dogs. They also took in 83 cats and adopted out 41 in the month of November.
The Animal Shelter had a total of 23 calls and picked up 13 dogs and 16 cats
The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 5 bite cases; 3 dogs and 2 cats.
8. Review and approve November 2010, expenses for Coroner:
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for November 2010, in the amount of $3,853.92. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
9. Review and approve November, 2010, expenses for Sheriff:
Discussion by Committee in regards to Vehicle Maintenance
Supervisor Sinklair would like to know why the electrical pedestal wasn’t moved initially and request an answer from Property and Insurance.
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen, to approve payment of the Sheriff’s Department expenses for November 2010, in the amount of $100,230.20. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
10. Discussion and Possible action on projected budget deficit.
R. Sinklair wanted to know why there was not a settled contract.
Committee was advised of a potential overrun in the estimated amount of $250,000. They were further advised that this was estimated as union contracts were still unsettled and the revenues were estimated out.
11. Department of Corrections Report.
DOC Housing Report handed out.
State Housing billing handed out
Currently we are housing 69 inmates. Unit A will be closed on December 15, 2010
12. Sheriff’s Report.
Data Collection Report shown to Committee.
11 fatal accidents in 2010. 12 fatalities overall.
Number of Calls Report handed out. 4,390 calls for service in November.
Overtime for November 2010
2015.5 hrs of overtime for November
Civil Process for November - 306 papers served
Prisoner Transport 109 prisoner transports for November 2010
Prisoner Transport cost for Juveniles $4,143.61.
2 Triple III’s
Electronic monitoring billed out $3,944 and paid Pro Tech $1,276.00 for a profit of $2,668.00 in the month of November. There was 232 offender days.
Chief Deputy asked the committee what type of information they would like in the future meetings. The committee requested to continue with the same reports. Supervisor Sinklair and Supervisor Halfen both requested the agenda electronically.
13. Adjournment
The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for January 11, 2011 at 09:30 am. Motion by Halfen, seconded by Tollaksen, to adjourn the meeting Motion Carried.
