Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee

October 10, 2017

            The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 04:15 pm, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.

The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.

                        Members Present:        B. Wenzel, J.Deitrich, W. Czuprynko, C. Pettersen, T. Kriegl

Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by William Wenzel at 04:15 pm.

 

Agenda:  Motion by Deitrich, seconded by Czuprynko to adopt the amended agenda. Motion carried.

 

Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Deitrich, seconded by Czuprynko to approve minutes from September 12, 2017 meeting. Motion Carried.

 

Communications:

            -Thank you card from Baraboo High School Student Council

            -Thank you card for Deputy Weinke for him protecting the road.

            -Letter to Captain Lange and Deputy Verch from Philip Capone Jail inmate for the jail                        programs afforded to the inmates.

            -Letter from Gery Schulz for the assistance that Deputy Vertein gave her after she had a                           car deer accident.

            -Email from Kurt Grote to Deputy Schram and Deputy Bodden for their assistance on a                           call.

Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update :

Animal Shelter took in 39 dogs and adopted/reclaimed/transferred 38 dogs.  They also took in 159 cats and adopted out/transferred out 36 in the month of September.  The Animal Shelter adopted out 1 hamster and 1 rabbit.  The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 11 bite cases 8 dogs and 2 cats. They responded to 44 calls and impounded 11 dogs and 32 cats. 

 

 

Review and approve September 2017, expenses for Coroner:

Motion by Deitrich, seconded by Czuprynko to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for September 2017 in the amount of $9,616.27. Bills discussed. Motion carried.

 

Review and approve September 2017, expenses for Sheriff:

Motion by Deitrich, seconded by Czuprynko to approve payment of the Sheriff’s expenses for September 2017 in the amount of $133,622.59. Bills discussed. Motion carried.

 

Discussion and consideration of Resolution Approving a Request to Apply for Aid to Law Enforcement with Wisconsin Ho-Chunk Lands Within Sauk County.

Motion by Deitrich, seconded by Pettersen. Motion Carried

 

Discussion and consideration for Amending Sauk Co. Code §27.07 to Bring the Animal Control Ordinance into Conformity with State Statutes by Allowing Impounded Animals        to be Adopted After Four Days Rather than Seven, and to Amend Sauk County’s Agreement with the Sauk County Humane Society to Bring the Agreement into       Conformity with State Statutes.

Motion by Deitirch, seconded by  Czuprynko.  Motion Carried

 

Monthly update on CJCC.

Total Bookings this year have been up overall.  It appears that a large percentage of that increase is in probation and parole holds. 

 

Sheriff’s Report.

     

            Calls for Service for September 6309 

                       

Overtime hours for September 2016  1,638.50 hours

Overtime hours for September 2017 1,197.25 hours 

            Down 441.25 hrs from 2016

Year to date down 2,428.49. hours

 

 

Prisoner Transports for September– 85 Transports

            8 Juveniles transported for September

            Juvenile housing cost for September was $7,995

            Transport cost was $2,598.49

      Jail           

                       

EM Report for September 221 offender days 

Collected $3,757 and invoiced $1,642.14 

                       

      Sheriff Meister informed the Committee that Finance requested us to put the 6 month Sergeant position back into the budget and that a special meeting would be needed prior County Board.

 

      Tom requested discussion next month on the Visionair Program.

 

Adjournment

The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at  04:15pm. Motion by Deitrich, seconded by Czyprynko to adjourn the meeting at 5:19 pm. Motion Carried.
