September 13, 2016
The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 04:15 pm, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.
Members Present: B. Wenzel, J.Dietrich, T. Kriegl, C. Lehman, W. Czuprynko

- Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by William Wenzel at 04:15 pm.
- Agenda: Motion by Czuprynko seconded by Deitrich to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.
- Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Deitrich to approve minutes from July and August meetings seconded by Lehman. Motion Carried.
- Communications:
-Thank you card to Lt Zunker from Johanna Madland for allowing her to job shadow with the dept. this summer.
-Thank you card from Allan Collins for our work on the incident involving John Elfers.
-Thank you letter from Mike Wenkman in regards to Sgt. Jeff Tobin assisting them when they broke down.
-Thank you letter from Steven Leiser.
-Request from Employee that has already received a 30 day leave of absence. She is requesting from this committee and an additional extension. Will forward the request to the Personnel Committee.
- Public comment :
Dan Holzman Cth U in Fairfield. Speaking on the cost of phone calls from the Jail.
John Allen from Baraboo also speaking on the cost of phone calls from the Jail.
- Appearances :
- Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update and presentation of 2017 Budget :
Animal Shelter took in 55 dogs and adopted/reclaimed 46 dogs. They also took in 128 cats and adopted out/transferred out 72 in the month of August. The Animal Shelter also took in 1 rabbit, 1 chicken, 2 chinchillas, 2 guinea pigs. They adopted out 1 parakeet, 1 chicken and 1 ferret. The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 25 bite cases 17 dogs, 3 cats, 2 bats and 1 raccoon. They responded to 54 calls and impounded 21 dogs and 22 cats and 1 domestic rabbit. Also Rose advised the Committee that they were asked to speak to Property and Insurance reference spacing issues for the Animal Shelter.
- Review and approve August 2016, expenses for Coroner:
Motion by Deitrich seconded by Czuprynko to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for August 2016 in the amount of $7,456.40. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
- Review and approve August 2016, expenses for Sheriff:
Motion by Czuprynko seconded by Deitrich to approve payment of the Sheriff’s expenses for August 2016 in the amount of $104,921.99. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
- Discussion of the 2017 Sheriff’s Budget
Sheriff advised the Committee that the Admin Review Committee requested that we be prepared for a zero percent budget. Sheriff and Committee spoke in regards to inmate housing.
Supervisor Kriegl suggested that it would make sense to raise the inmates to 30 to 35.
Supervisor Kriegl also asked why we were charging higher rates for phone calls. We are not charging increased rates.

The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 04:15pm. Motion by Detirch seconded by Lehman to adjourn the meeting at 5:30 pm. Motion Carried.
