UPDATE - Traffic Crash - Town of Baraboo

September 2, 2013

 

On September 1, 2013, at approximately 9:00 PM the Sauk County Communications Center received 911 call reporting a two vehicle crash on Steinke Road in the Township of Baraboo, Sauk County.  The caller reported that a motorcycle was struck by a car.

The investigation determined a motorcycle that had been traveling east bound on Gall Road was stopped at the intersection of Gall Road at Old Lake Road.  A Jeep that was following behind the motorcycle did not a stop, striking the rear of the motorcycle.   The motorcycle which had two individuals riding on it was pushed through the intersection onto Steinke Road causing both the driver and passenger to be thrown off the motorcycle.   The Jeep continued through the intersection leaving the road striking a retaining wall for a driveway.

The motorcycle operator and passenger were treated at the scene by Baraboo EMS an then flown by Med-flight and Med-Link to UW-Hospital for treatment of their injuries.  Names of the individuals injured are not being released at this time.

The driver of the Jeep, Kevin Vaness, age 22 of Baraboo, WI, was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Causing Injury.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office as assisted on scene by the Baraboo Police Department, Baraboo Fire Department, Baraboo EMS, UW Med-Flight and Med-Link.    The incident remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.

 

The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as Benjamin J. Brooks, age 27, from Baraboo, WI.  Mr. Brooks passed away on Monday as a result of his injuries. 

 

The passenger of the motorcycle was identified as Tory C. Frenzel, age 23, from Baraboo, WI.  Mr. Frenzel is still being treated for his injuries.
