Two Car Crash on Highway 33

Special News Release

June 7, 2010

On June 6, 2010, approximately 3:54 PM the Sauk County Communications Center received a call of a two vehicle crash on HWY 33 east of Wakerly Road in the Township of Excelsior. The caller reported that both vehicles were on fire with one of the drivers being unconscious and still inside the vehicle.

Upon the deputy’s arrival the deputy observed the driver who was unconscious and inside the vehicle was being removed from his vehicle by individuals who had stopped to assist.
Preliminary investigation by the deputy shows that a westbound pickup truck being driven by Daniel Gabelt, age 49, of Reedsburg, WI and a pickup driven eastbound on HWY 33 by Thomas Pavlik, age 45, of Bartlett, IL collided in the eastbound lane of HWY 33. Upon impact the vehicles caught fire.

Both Gabelt and Pavlik were transported to Reedsburg Area Medical Center by the Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service. Gabelt was later transferred by med-flight to UW-Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office. The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Reedsburg Fire Department, the Reedsburg Ambulance Service, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Reedsburg Police Department.
