Traffic Accident on Highway 12

On December 11, 2013 at approximately 6:52 AM, the Sauk County Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call of a semi rollover on Hwy 12 near Skillet Creek Road in the Township of Baraboo. 

Upon the arrival of the deputy, it was observed that a tractor trailer unit was lying on its driver side off the roadway on the west side of Hwy 12.   Upon making contact with the driver of the semi, the deputy learned that he was pinned inside the tractor.  The driver was extricated by the Baraboo Fire Department.  

The investigation into the incident showed that the semi, being driven by Walter T. Prince, age 46, of Antigo, WI  was northbound on Hwy 12 and crossed the center line striking a southbound pickup being driven by, Garrett K. Rufener, age 27, of Monroe, WI.  The semi then continued off the roadway and rolled onto the driver’s side.   Prince was cited for Operating Left of Center and Rufener was cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Revoked.

Prince was transported by the Baraboo EMS for his injuries to St. Clare Hospital.  Rufener was examined at the scene by Baraboo EMS and released.    

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Baraboo Fire Department, Baraboo EMS, Sauk County Highway Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.   The investigation into this traffic crash is continuing.
