The preliminary investigation shows that a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am operated by a 23 year old Prairie Du Sac woman was eastbound on STH 33 attempting to pass a rural postal vehicle delivering mail when the Pontiac crossed over the centerline and struck a westbound 2002 Mazda operated by a 73 year old Reedsburg woman.

The 23 year old woman was flown from the scene to UW Hospital in Madison for treatment of her injuries.  The 73 year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sauk County Coroner’s Office.  Alcohol and seatbelt use is not available at this time.  The names of the subjects involved are not being released at this time pending notification of relatives.

Traffic on STH33 was closed in this area for over three hours as a result.  This crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.  In addition to Reedsburg Fire Department and Reedsburg Ambulance, the Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Wisconsin State Patrol and the Sauk County Highway Department.
