STH 136 Crash and Fire

On April 29, 2014 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a Sauk County Deputy was passed by a 1995 Lexus traveling at a high rate of speed east bound on STH 136, east of Cornfield Rd in the town on Baraboo.  After the Lexus competed the pass, the Deputy witnessed the Lexus lose control while negotiating a curve.  The Lexus left the roadway, overturned, and struck a house at E10540 STH 136.  The Deputy had not yet attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle.

After striking the house, the Lexus caught fire.  The operator, Nicholas S. Allen, age 29, of Baraboo was able to crawl out of the car to safety.  The occupants of the residence were evacuated by responding Deputies.  The car fire was unable to be extinguished and the fire rapidly spread to the residence causing severe damage before being brought under control by the Baraboo Fire Department.

Allen suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to St. Clare Hospital by Baraboo District Ambulance.  The occupants of the home were not injured.

Speed was a factor in the crash and Allen was cited for Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed, Operating with a Suspended Driver’s License, Non Registration of an automobile, and Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance.  Allen was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

STH 136 between USH 12 and Cornfield Road was closed down for over two hours as a result of this incident.  The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the  Baraboo Fire Department, Baraboo District Ambulance, Sauk County Highway Department, and Alliant Energy.  Sauk City Fire Department responded to backfill the Baraboo Fire Station during the incident.
