On Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at approximately 7:37 p.m., the Sauk County Communications Center received a report of a single vehicle traffic accident on State Highway 113 east of County Highway DL in the Town of Greenfield.  Law Enforcement, Fire, and Emergency Medical personnel were sent to the scene as it was reported that several people were seriously injured.

The initial investigation showed that a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling primarily northbound on STH 113.  The operator of the vehicle was Korrianna M. Turner, age 20, of Madison, WI.  Keyanna M. Applewhite, age 24 of Madison, WI, and Deavion C. Elem, age 20, of Fitchburg, WI, were passengers in the car.  The vehicle failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and entered the right side ditch.  The operator overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle.  The car crossed the centerline, entered the left side ditch, and traveled off road until it struck a tree.  None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.

All occupants of the vehicle were transported to local hospitals for treatment and/or evaluation of injuries sustained in the crash.  The following day, on June 3, Deavion Elem died as a result of her injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team which includes members from the Patrol and Detective Divisions.  Driver strategy and speed are contributing factors in this crash.  Other causal factors are still under investigation.  Upon the investigation’s conclusion, the Sheriff’s Office will consult with the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office regarding any charges to be filed in this case.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene or during the preliminary investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin State Patrol, Baraboo District Ambulance Service, Baraboo Fire Department, Merrimac Fire Department, Sauk Prairie Ambulance Association, Sauk County Coroner’s Office, and Mike’s Towing.
