Single Vehicle Crash - Fatality **Update - Name Released**

**Update - The name of the deceased motorist involved in this crash is James Walker, age 73 of Reedsburg, WI.**

On Thursday, December 1st, 2022 at approximately 7:11 AM the Sauk County Dispatch Center received a report of a single vehicle crash near the intersection of Van Hoosen Road and Shady Lane Road in the township of Fairfield. It was reported that a minivan was located in the middle of a cut cornfield with a lone male occupant inside unresponsive and the vehicle was covered in frost. 

First responding emergency personnel on scene located a maroon minivan in the middle of a cut cornfield with heavy front end damage. The driver of the vehicle, a 73 year old male from Reedsburg, WI was located in the driver's seat deceased. Preliminary investigation showed that the van was being operated eastbound on Shady Lane Road when the operator failed to stop for a stop sign and traveled through a t-style intersection with Van Hoosen Road, going over an embankment and airborne before landing in the corn field and coming to a rest approximately 100 yards into the field. The vehicle was covered in frost, indicating that the crash had happened several hours before it was initially reported. The name of the operator is being withheld pending notification of the family.

The Sauk County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Baraboo Fire Department and Baraboo Ambulance Service.
