Single Vehicle Crash - Fatality

On Friday, March 4th, 2022 at approximately 6:16 AM the Sauk County Dispatch Center received a report of a single vehicle crash on County Road GG east of the intersection with County Road G in the township of Bear Creek. It was reported to be a single vehicle crash with the vehicle off the roadway into the trees and a subject lying outside the vehicle unresponsive.

First responding personnel on scene located the crashed vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, suspended in the treeline on the south side of the roadway. The operator of the vehicle, a 51 year old male from Hill Point, WI was treated at the scene by medical personnel before being taken directly to UW-Madison Hospital via medflight. Shortly after arriving at the hospital the operator was pronounced deceased. Initial investigation shows that the Impala was traveling east on County Road GG just past the entrance to White Mound County Park when the operator lost control and left the roadway on the south side of the road. The vehicle then struck several trees, sustaining heavy front end damage before coming to rest off the roadway in the treeline. It did not appear the operator was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

The roadway was closed while Sauk County Sheriff's deputies investigated the crash and the name of the male involved is being withheld pending notification of the family. The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting the Sauk County Sheriff's Office at the scene were members of the Plain Fire Department, Plain EMS and UW Medflight.
