Prescription Drug Violation Investigation Leads to an Arrest

On May 17, 2010, the Sauk County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a private residence in Bluffview Trailer Park in Sumpter Township, North Freedom, WI as the result of a prescription drug violation investigation. Chief Deputy “Chip” Meister states, “the illegal sale of prescription drugs is a problem that has been increasing in our area.”

Penny S. Smith, age 45 of North Freedom, WI, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of Delivery of Schedule 2 Narcotics (Fentanyl). This is a Class H Felony, with a possible penalty of a 6 year prison sentence and or a $10,000.00 fine. Smith was incarcerated in the Sauk County Jail on these charges. Additionally she was issued a citation for a Sauk County Ordinance of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The investigation is continuing by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and the Sauk County Drug Task Force. The Sauk County Drug Task Force is made up of officers from the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, Sauk Prairie Police Department, Baraboo Police Department, Lake Delton Police Department, Reedsburg Police Department and the Spring Green Police Department.
