Phone Scam

The Sauk County Sheriff's Office would like to make the public aware of a scam that has been taking place in our county.

In this scam, a subject is phoning residents of the county and pretending to be an employee of the Sheriff's Office. The subject is using technology which is capable of tricking caller ID into showing the main dispatch line for the Sheriff's Office. The caller has also used the names of actual Sheriff's Office employees when contacting citizens.

The caller will identify themselves as a member of the Sheriff's Office and threaten the citizen that there is a warrant out for their arrest. They will then threaten that members of the Sheriff's Office will come and arrest the citizen if they do not provide personal banking information or purchase pre-loaded debit cards and provide them the numbers.

The Sheriff's Office does not operate in the manner and will never call and demand money in lieu of an arrest. If you receive one of these phone calls, please do not provide the caller any personal information or banking information. Instead, hang up and call the Sauk County Sheriff's Office at 608-356-4895.
