OWI 4

On Sunday, May 8th, 2022 at approximately 8:27 PM a deputy with the Sauk County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on West Mulberry Street near the intersection with West Maple Street in the village of West Baraboo. Prior to conducting this traffic stop the deputy had observed the offending vehicle, a 2003 Buick LeSabre, fail to stop for a stop sign and drive through a controlled intersection. 

The deputy made contact with the operator of the vehicle who was identified as Justin Splett, age 42 of West Baraboo. During contact with Splett, the deputy was able to observed signs of alcohol impairment and Splett admitted to consuming alcohol prior to operating the vehicle. Splett was asked to submit to field sobriety testing and as a result was arrested for Operating while Intoxicated, 4th offense. During the arrest Splett became combative with deputies and officers on scene, resulting in a deputy sustaining an injury. The deputy was treated at a local hospital and released. Splett was also medically cleared at a local hospital before being transported to the Sauk County Jail.

In addition to the OWI 4th charge, Splett was also charged with Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, two counts of Battery to or Threat to Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, and Resist Officer - Sustain Body Harm/Soft Tissue Injury. He was also cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Sign or Signal. Assisting Sauk County deputies on scene were officers from the Baraboo Police Department.
