North Freedom Man Arrested for Burglary

On October 25, 2011, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department arrested Joseph Toth, age 46, from North Freedom, for Burglary. Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to Toth’s residence in the Village of North Freedom for a disturbance . Along with responding deputies, Sheriff’s Department Investigators responded because of a Crime Stoppers Tip received earlier in the week that Toth may be a suspect in a Burglary. Investigators found some property related to a Burglary in the Township of Delton which was reported on October 10, 2011. Items taken from that Burglary were estimated to be in excess of $20,000. Toth left the residence prior to Deputies arriving on scene. A citizen observed Toth walking towards a wooded area west of the Village of North Freedom. The Sauk County K9 unit responded to the scene. The K9 located Toth laying in the wooded area near the Railroad Museum at which time he was taken into custody for the charge of Felony Burglary.

Sheriff’s Department Investigators searched Toth’s residence in the Village of North Freedom and additional properties in the Township of Delton. The searches lead to the recovery of several thousand dollars worth of stolen property.

Toth has a lengthy criminal history including attempted murder in the State of Nevada and Felon in Possession of Firearms. If convicted of this Class F felony, the penalty is a fine of up to $25,000, or imprisonment of up to 12-1/2 years, or both; however, for a repeat offender, the term of imprisonment may increase up to 2 years with prior misdemeanor convictions, and up to 6 years with a prior felony conviction.

“Once again, citizen involvement helped solve this crime, along with some excellent work by our Patrol Deputies and Investigators. They all did a great job”, says Sheriff Chip Meister.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation on this case.
