Multi-Vehicle Crash w/ Injury

On Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023 at approximately 3:09 AM the Sauk County Dispatch Center received a report of a motor vehicle crash on State Road 23 at the intersection with Open View Road in the township of Westfield. Initial information was it was a single vehicle crash with the operator suffering injuries and entrapment. The first arriving deputy located a 2nd crashed vehicle on scene and reported both vehicles to have extreme damage. The 2nd vehicle operator was out of the vehicle and a passenger had been ejected during the crash and was found lying in the grass in the ditch line.

Initial investigation into the crash revealed that a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado occupied by two females was being operated on State Road 23 northbound near Open View Road when a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze occupied by a lone female traveling southbound crossed the center line. The operator of the Silverado attempted an evasive maneuver to avoid a collision but the two vehicle struck nearly head on in the northbound lane. The Silverado spun across the roadway and ended facing southbound in the southbound ditch line having sustained extreme damage. During the crash, a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and the operator was able to exit the truck after the crash. The Cruze ended in the northbound lane blocking the full lane of traffic with the operator being trapped inside the vehicle. It is not believed that seatbelts were worn by the occupants of the Silverado. All three individuals were transported to a local hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash. The ejected individual was taken via Med-Flight to a Madison area hospital. Impairment from alcohol and drugs is believed to have played a role in the crash and the investigation into this incident remains ongoing. The names of those involved are being withheld at this time pending notification of the families.

Assisting the Sauk County Sheriff's Office on scene were members of the Loganville Fire Department, Reedsburg Ambulance, UW Med-Flight and the Sauk County Highway Department.
