Motorcycle Accident on STH 23 Results in a Fatality

News Release

On 06/22/2012 at 7:24 P. M., the Sauk County Communications Center received a call regarding a motorcycle vs. deer crash on STH 23 North of Narrows Creek Road in the Township of Westfield, Sauk County, Wisconsin.

Upon arrival and investigation conducted by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that the motorcycle in question was travelling south on STH 23 when it was struck by a deer crossing the roadway. The motorcycle was being operated by Ronald R. Nevins, age 47, of Reedsburg, Wisconsin and a passenger, Malissa G. Meinen, age 31, also of Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Nevins was taken by Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service to the Reedsburg Area Medical Center and later transferred to UW Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Meinen was taken by UW MedFlight to the UW Hospital with severe head injuries. Meinen was later pronounced dead from her injuries.

Neither Nevins nor Meinen was wearing a helmet. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this crash. The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Loganville Fire Department and First Responders, The Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service and the UW MedFlight Helicopter.
