Missing Horses Located

On May 08, 2014 the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a kayaker traveling on the Baraboo River just west of Lavalle, WI to report that they had located two carcasses of horses in the river.  The Sheriff’s Office sent a Deputy who was able to locate one of the horses with the assistance of the original caller.  The second horse was not able to be located due to the terrain and onset of darkness.  On May 09, 2014 the second horse was discovered in the water of the river at the location the original caller had described.

The two horses have been identified as the two horses that had been reported as possibly stolen from a local stable in the middle of March.  The investigation has never generated any evidence of criminal activity.  At this time it is believed that the horses drowned in the river by accident.
