June 19, 2010

** For immediate Release**

On June 19, 2010 at approximately 1:41 pm the Sauk County Communications Center received a call reporting that a male subject had been shot in the leg while target practicing in the Town of Merrimac.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department, Merrimac First Responders, and the Sauk Prairie Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

An investigation of the incident determined that 29 year old Andrew Busser of Merrimac was shooting targets with a group of family and friends, when he accidentally shot himself in the left leg.

Busser was transported to the Sauk Prairie Hospital where he was treated for non life threatening injuries. Alcohol is not a factor in this incident.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind all citizens to handle all weapons as if they were loaded, know what your target is and what is beyond it, and always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
