Huber Inmate Escapes, Arrested after Committing Burglary

On Thursday, October 8th, 2015, at about 5:20 pm, Sauk County Jail Deputies reported to Sauk County Dispatch that a Huber Law inmate had left the building without authorization, and continued away from the facility southbound. The inmate was reported to be wearing a green jail uniform and orange jail issued footwear.

Two Sauk County Detectives responded to the area and began searching for the inmate. After about a half hour they observed a male subject walking in the backyard towards a wood line at S5210 USH 12. The person matched the description of the escaped inmate, except that he was wearing different clothing.

One Detective identified himself and ordered the person to stop, at which point the male fled on foot while the Detective gave chase through the wood line. The suspect was captured, positively identified as the escaped inmate and taken into custody after a short foot chase.

Additional investigation found that the inmate had used a ladder at the residence at S5210 USH 12, broken a window, gained entry the residence and stole property, to include the new clothing that he was wearing at the time of his arrest.

The inmate, Nigel R. Schultz, D.O.B. 03/18/1998, was taken to the secure portion of the Sauk County Jail. Additional charges of Escape, Burglary, Theft, Resisting an Officer and Felony Bail Jumping will be referred to the Sauk County District Attorney for prosecution.
