Gotham Man Charged with Burglary

On April 4, 2014, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a burglary to a residence on Dale Road in the Township of Washington.  The homeowner reported to the dispatcher they returned home after being gone and found someone had been inside their home and items had been moved.

Upon the arrival of the deputy it was determined that entry had been made into the home and the person had been throughout the home.   The homeowners reported that they were missing a 60” flat screen television from the living room and a 9MM handgun was taken from a bedroom.

On April 7, 2014, deputies from the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an attempted burglary on HWY G just outside the community of Hillpoint in the Township of Washington.  The caller reported that while she was inside her home someone kicked in her back door.  She advised that the suspects left when they saw her.  The caller stated that they saw the suspects leave in a silver Dodge Caravan.  The caller was able to obtain the registration which showed the vehicle was registered to an individual from Richland County.

During the course of the investigation, investigators developed several suspects in the burglary.   On April 10, 2014, Austin J. Vonbehren, age 24, of Gotham, WI was arrested on a Probation warrant.  During interviews with Vonbehren he admitted to his involvement in the attempted burglary on April 7, 2014 and to his involvement in the burglary on April 4, 2014. Vonbehren stated that he got rid of the stolen property from the April 4th burglary in Madison, WI.

Vonbehren is currently being charged with Burglary, Attempted Burglary, Misdemeanor Theft, Criminal Damage to Property and Bail Jumping.  The investigation is continuing by the investigators.
