Felony OWI Arrest

On March 31, 2014 at approximately 1:30am a Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed a vehicle southbound on Mulberry Street in the Village of West Baraboo.  The Deputy ran a check on the vehicle registration and on the owner of the vehicle.  The Deputy was informed that the owner’s drivers license status is Revoked.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and the operator’s identity was confirmed to by David J. Welsh, age 48, of Baraboo, WI.  During the course of the investigation the Deputy could detect an odor of intoxicants on Welsch’s breath and it was learned that Welsch had been convicted of three previous times for Operating A Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated and had a restriction on his driver’s license that his blood alcohol concentration must be under .02%.

Welsh was administered field sobriety tests and failed.  As a result, Welsh was transported to the Sauk County Jail and charged with Operating A Motor Vehicle With A Prohibited Alcohol Concentration 4th Offense within 5 years, and Operating A Motor Vehicle After Revocation.
