FATAL CRASH- TOWN OF EXCELSIOR ** UPDATE - NAME RELEASED**

Update - The operator of the pick-up truck involved in this crash was Ronald Sersland, age 63 of Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Sersland died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. 

On Monday, February 5^th, 2024 at approximately 3:00 PM the Sauk County Dispatch Center received reports of a motor vehicle crash on STH 23 at Shady Lane Road in the Township of Excelsior. Initial information that was reported was a pick-up truck versus semi-tractor trailer involved with serious injuries to the pick-up truck driver. Sauk County Deputies arrived on scene within minutes and located a severely injured pick-up truck driver still in the truck. The driver was removed from the truck and lifesaving efforts began immediately with assistance from bystanders already on scene. Med- Flight was requested to respond directly to the scene.

Initial investigation into the crash revealed that a 2008 Ford Ranger occupied by one male was being operated on State Highway 23 southbound near Shady Lane Road. The Ford Ranger crossed the centerline and struck a semi-tractor trailer, which was being operated by a female driver.

The lone female driver in the semi-tractor trailer was transported to Reedsburg Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck, a 63 year old male from rural Reedsburg, Wisconsin, died at the scene. The name is being withheld at this time pending notification of family. Investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Assisting the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office on scene were members of the Reedsburg Fire Department, Reedsburg Ambulance, UW Med-Flight, Lake Delton Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Sauk County Highway Department.
