The construction crew reported that a Pontiac van had been witnessed in the area of the crash in which a vehicle had run into the back of a piece of construction equipment before leaving the scene. Responding Sauk County deputies attempted to locate the vehicle in the area but were not successful.

On Thursday, August 11th, 2022 at approximately 1:14 PM the Sauk County Dispatch Center received a report of an elderly male found on the ground outside of a vehicle at S6188 County Road D in the township of Westfield. Responding deputies located the 85 year old male deceased next to a 2000 Pontiac Montana van. The van had front end damage with both air bags deployed and it did not appear the operator had been wearing a seatbelt. Deputies determined that the van had been involved in the crash on Stone Church Road from the day before and it is believed that the male died from a combination of injuries sustained in the crash and an ongoing medical issue. The name of the male is being withheld at this time pending notification of family and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
