Fatal Bicycle Accident

On Wednesday, August 16th, 2023, at approximately 8:13 PM the Sauk County Dispatch Center received a report of an injured bicyclist laying in the roadway of CTH DL near Park Road in the township of Baraboo.

Upon deputies' arrival, life saving measures were being administered to the bicyclist by a conservation warden and a bystander. Life saving measures were continued by the warden, bystander, and a deputy until the arrival of the Baraboo Fire and EMS District personnel.  After care of the bicyclist was turned over to the Baraboo Fire and EMS District personnel, life saving measures continued but were unsuccessful.

Initial investigation showed that the bicyclist was traveling eastbound down a steep a hill on CTH DL at the time of the crash. The bicycle appeared to have suffered a mechanical failure causing the bicycle’s operator to be thrown forward off of the bicycle and onto CTH DL.  The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Assisting the Sauk County Sheriff's Office on scene were members of the Baraboo Fire and EMS District, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Baraboo Police Department, and the Sauk County Coroner’s Office.
