Emergency Airplane Landing

On July 9, 2015 at approximately 8:30pm the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an airplane crashing into a cornfield on County Line Road just south of the Tri County Airport in the Township of Spring Green.  Sauk County Sheriff’s Deputies, Spring Green Fire Department, and Spring Green Ambulance were immediately sent to the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Michael D. Ramos, age 58, of Dodgeville, WI was operating a 1946 Taylor Craft aircraft when he reported to be having engine trouble shortly after taking off.  Ramos did not believe that he would be able to make it back to the runway at the Tri County Airport.  As a result, he made an emergency landing in a cornfield just south of the airport.

Ramos was not injured as a result of this incident and the plane reportedly received only minor damage.  There were no passengers in the airplane with Ramos.  The cornfield is owned by Hartung Brothers Inc. and received moderate damage.

This incident remains under investigation by the FAA.
