CTH U Crash

On September 8, 2014 at approximately 8:37am the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center was notified of a single vehicle roll over crash on CTH U approximately 1.3 miles north of Fairfield Road in the Township of Fairfield.  It was reported that the vehicle was upside down and partially submerged in a drainage ditch full of water.  Sheriff’s Deputies, Baraboo Fire Department, and Baraboo District Ambulance were sent to the scene.

Firefighters and Paramedics entered the water and located a victim inside the vehicle.  An immediate rescue effort was initiated utilizing rescue personnel in cold water rescue gear and  a winch and cable hooked up to the Fire Rescue vehicle to overturn and stabilize the vehicle.  Blystone’s Wrecker Service also assisted in this rescue operation.

The operator was removed from the vehicle and transported to St. Clare Hospital by Baraboo District Ambulance and then transferred to UW Hospital in Madison by Med Flight helicopter.  The operator was identified as Reed David Glover, age 22, of Menomonie, WI.

The preliminary investigation showed that Glover was southbound on CTH U, in his 2001 Volvo, when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve.  The vehicle went off the roadway, struck the drainage ditch, and overturned into the water.  Glover has been charged with Failure to Maintain Control and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol.  Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash and it is unknown if Glover was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
