Crash Involves School Bus Transporting 34 Children

On February 23, 2015 at approximately 3:30 P.M. the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle crash on STH 78 in the Town of Prairie Du Sac.  It was reported that a school bus was involved in the crash.  The initial investigation revealed that the school bus was transporting 34 children from the Sauk Prairie School District.  The bus stopped on STH 78 to let a student off at which time the bus was hit from behind by a 2006 Ford Explorer being operated by a 16 year old male. 

As a result of the crash, 11 students from the bus were transported by ambulance to the Sauk Prairie Hospital and St. Clare Hospital.  The bus driver and the operator from the Ford Explorer were also transported to the hospital.  23 students were successfully reunited with their parents at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.  The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sauk Prairie Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Sauk City Fire Department, Sauk Prairie EMS, Baraboo EMS, Lodi EMS, Middleton EMS, Waunakee EMS, and Sauk Prairie School Administration.
