Child Abduction

     On April 3, 2013 at approximately 7:13am, LILIANA CABALLERO notified the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office that her 3 month old child, JOSE ANGEL CABALLERO LOPEZ, had been taken from her residence at 3:00am by the child’s non-custodial father, LUIS ANGEL GUTIERREZ.

     An Attempt to Locate was immediately broadcast with a description of the vehicle, GUTIERREZ, and Baby Jose. 

     In addition, The Sauk County District Attorney’s Office issued a temporary felony warrant on GUTIERREZ for Interference With Child Custody By Parent or Others.

     Working with the Illinois State Police, the Indiana State Police, and the Michigan State Police, we knew that the suspect was in Portage, Indiana at 10:13am and in Paw Paw, Michigan at 11:46am our time.

     The vehicle was located and pulled over at approximately 1:00pm in Manttawan, Michigan by Michigan State Police.  GUTIERREZ was taken into custody without incident and Baby Jose was located unharmed in the vehicle.

     We are currently working on arrangements on reuniting Baby JOSE with his mother.

     This investigation had a positive ending due to the cooperative efforts of the men and women of the following agencies:  The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office, Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, Illinois State Police, Indiana State Police, and the Michigan State Police.

     GUTIERREZ is currently incarcerated in the Vanburen  County Jail in Paw Paw, Michigan.          The Sauk County District Attorney’s Office has charged him with Interference with Parental Custody and GUTIERREZ will be going through the extradition process to return to Wisconsin to face these charges.

     This incident remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation.
