Chief Deputy Fults retirement

Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister is announcing the retirement of Chief Deputy Kevin Fults after 33 years of service to the citizens of Sauk County effective June 30, 2014.

Chief Deputy Fults began his career on February 17, 1981 as a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Jail.  Fults was promoted to the Patrol Division in June, 1982 where he remained until April, 1984 when he became a Detective.  Fults was promoted to Detective Sergeant June 26, 1999 and promoted to Detective Lieutenant January 1, 2002.  On February 15, 2007 he was promoted to Field Services Captain and promoted to Chief Deputy January 3, 2011.  In addition, he was on the Sauk County Emergency Response Team for many years.

As Chief Deputy, Fults held the highest ranking, non-elected position within the Sheriff’s Department.  He supervised the entire 152 employee department.

Chief Deputy Fults either took part in investigating, or supervised nearly every major investigation of this department over the past 30 years.  Some of those major investigations include: multiple homicides, kidnappings, sex crimes, officer involved shootings, officer involved misconduct investigations, a school shooting, and cold case investigations.  Chief Deputy Fults is very well known and respected throughout the investigative community.

Sheriff Meister states that Kevin’s ethics, dedication, and honesty to our County and this Office are remarkable.  The Sheriff’s Office has indeed been fortunate to have had his extensive experience and judgment for the past 33 years.  Fults professionalism, dedication and respect from other officers have been a credit to our Department.  His contributions and accomplishments at the department have been and will remain a lasting legacy of his commitment to law enforcement.
