Burning Restrictions

On June 28, 2012 the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources issued emergency burning restrictions for several Counties, including Sauk County. This ban includes the burning of any combustible material outdoors. This includes:
• ALL fireworks (restricted and non-restricted)
• combustible material in a burn pile or burn barrel, including grass or wooded areas
• campfires with the exception of developed camping areas within a metal fire ring
• outdoor disposal of ashes, charcoal briquettes, matches, or any burning material
• smoking a cigar, cigarette, or pipe, except within an enclosed vehicle or building
These burning restrictions go into effect Friday June 29, 2012 at 12:01am and are until further notice. This includes the suspension of firework permits already issued.
In addition to possession of firework forfeiture charges, anyone who is responsible for starting a fire by any of the above listed means may be charged with Negligent Handling of Burning Materials which is a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $1000.00 or imprisonment up to 9 months, or both.
