News Release

      December 17, 2013

On December 5, 2013, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residence in the Town of Greenfield for a report of a burglary in progress. As a result of the investigation, Shaun R. Murry, age 30, from Baraboo, was arrested for Burglary and Theft. The investigation revealed that Murry entered the residence while the owners were gone. Upon the owners return they discovered Murry in their residence. Murry told the owners he was from the Power Company and was following up on a "signal" indicating a problem coming from the residence.

The owners asked for credentials from Murry at which time Murry shoved one of the owners away and ran out of the house. Murry got into his car and as he was leaving, Murry struck one of the home owners with his vehicle. The owner suffered minor injuries. Murry’s vehicle was quickly located, abandoned, in a public parking lot in the City of Baraboo.

Murry was featured in the Sauk County Crime Stoppers "Most Wanted" poster on December 11, 2013. After receiving several tips as to Murry's location, investigators were advised that Murry planned to turn himself in. Murry did in fact turn himself in to the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department on December 14, 2013. Murry, later told investigators that he was looking for money or property that he could easily sell to make some money to pay bills.

If convicted Murry could face 13 years of imprisonment, a fine up to $35,000, or both.

Murry remains in the Sauk County Jail.
