Arrest made in 2018 Fatal Traffic Crash

Josett

On January 8th, 2018, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into a traffic crash that resulted in the death of Makenzee Carpenter, of Reedsburg, WI, who was 18 year of age at the time, which occurred on Thompson Road north of North Dutch Hollow Road in the Town of LaValle.

Initial investigation revealed differing accounts of how the crash took place, some of which did not appear to be consistent with the evidence at the scene and on the surviving passengers.

Interviews and other investigative avenues, along with laboratory testing continued through the following year. These resulted in probable cause to believe that Mark S. Josett, 37 years old at the time, of Camp Douglas, a survivor of the crash, was the driver of the vehicle at the time of the crash and that he was under the influence of THC (the active ingredient of Marijuana) and Methamphetamine.

On April 29th, 2019, with the assistance of the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, a Sauk County Detective arrested Josett in Camp Douglas, WI on an arrest warrant issued by Sauk County Circuit Court charging him with Homicide by Intoxicated use of a Vehicle and Homicide by Operation of a vehicle while having a Detectable amount of a Restricted Controlled Substance.

Josett was brought to the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, interviewed and later booked into the Sauk County jail on the charges outlined in the Arrest Warrant and Criminal Complaint. Josett will appear in Sauk County Circuit Court for a bail hearing in the coming days.
