Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

Dederich

On Saturday, December 8th, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into an Armed Robbery at the Kwik Stop convenience store in Plain, WI.

During the investigation, numerous tips and leads were forwarded to the Sheriff’s Office through Sauk County Crime Stoppers, video of the suspect was obtained from the store surveillance system and Deputies and Detectives learned of conversation between the clerk and suspect prior to the robbery that led to the identification of the suspect as 49 year old Douglas D. Dederich of Bear Valley, WI.

Madison Police Detectives contacted Sauk County Sheriff’s Detectives informing them of two similar robberies in Madison with what was believed to be the same suspect, after which the cases were worked jointly by our two agencies.

On Thursday, December 13th, the suspect was taken into custody at his worksite in the Village of Waunakee without incident and interviewed. Dederich confessed to committing two Robberies in the City of Madison and the Plain Kwik Stop Robbery. Search warrants were executed on the suspects vehicle and residence for evidence that corroborated his confession.

Dederich was taken to the Dane County Jail on two counts of armed robbery. Armed Robbery charges against Dederich will be forwarded to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office in the Kwik Stop Robbery case.

Citizen involvement was critical in this case, and Sheriff Chip Meister thanks all those who took the time to relay their tips and information to us, and reminds everyone that Sauk County Crime Stoppers is available 24/7 at 1-888-847-7285 to receive information on any criminal activity in Sauk County.
