ARMED ROBBERY – WEST BARABOO

On September 26, 2016 at approximately 11:41 p.m. the Sauk County Communications Center received a report of an armed robbery that had occurred at the Kwik Trip Convenience Store located at 602 W. Pine St. in the Village of West Baraboo.  It was reported that a male suspect, later identified as Andrew J.L. Videc, age 18 of Baraboo, WI, had entered the store, displayed a handgun, and had demanded cigarettes and U.S. currency from the cashier.  Videc had departed the store in a white Buick.  A license plate was also provided by the reporting party.  Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were immediately sent to the scene.

A Sergeant with the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office later observed the suspect vehicle traveling northbound on USH 12 and attempted a traffic stop on the white Buick.  The Buick increased its speed and failed to stop for the pursuing law enforcement vehicles.  The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the pursuit by the Village of Lake Delton Police Department.  The Buick continued on USH 12 until it reached the intersection with STH 23.  The Buick continued westbound on STH 23 exiting the Village of Lake Delton into the Town of Delton.  A Reedsburg Police Sergeant deployed a tire deflation device disabling the Buick on STH 23 north of STH 33 in the Town of Excelsior.

The Buick came to rest on Evergreen Road south of STH 33.  Videc exited the vehicle and displayed and discharged a flare gun at responding law enforcement officers and himself.  Videc was engaged in verbal dialog with the Deputies and was taken into custody.

Videc remains in the custody of the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.  Tentative charges of Fleeing/Eluding an Officer,  Armed Robbery, and numerous traffic citations will be referred to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the City of Baraboo Police Department, Village of Lake Delton Police Department, City of Reedsburg Police Department, and the Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service.
