STH 58 VEHICLE vs. AMISH BUGGY CRASH

On February 25, 2018 at approximately 4:54 p.m., the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a vehicle versus Amish buggy traffic crash on STH 58 near Quaker Valley Drive in the Town of Ironton.  Sauk County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Cazenovia Area Ambulance Service were sent to the scene.

The initial investigation shows that a horse-drawn Amish buggy and a blue 1999 GMC Yukon were traveling southbound on STH 58.  The buggy was traveling in front of the vehicle and was straddling the right edge of the pavement.  The closing Yukon struck the rear of the buggy, did not stop at the crash location, and continued southbound on STH 58.  The impact with the SUV ejected/separated the occupants from the buggy.  The buggy was occupied by 5 people, 2 adults and 3 children all from rural La Valle, WI.  The children sustained minor injuries and the adults sustained non-life threatening injuries.  They were transported to Reedsburg Area Medical Center for treatment.

Evidence at the scene enabled Deputies to identify the hit-and-run vehicle involved in this crash.  The Yukon was located unoccupied in rural Cazenovia in neighboring Richland County.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Cazenovia Area Ambulance Service, Cazenovia Area Fire Department, Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and Shield’s Towing during this incident and initial investigation.

This crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.   If you have any information regarding this crash, you are encouraged to contact the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office or Sauk County Crime Stoppers @ 1-888-TIP-SAUK (1-888-847-7285).
