Ambulance Fire

On January 13th, 2019 at approximately 6:39 PM the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle fire involving an ambulance. The dispatch center received a report of an ambulance traveling southbound on US Highway 12 near US Highway 136 which was reported to be running in emergency mode with flames visible underneath.

At approximately 6:46 PM the ambulance was located by a sheriff’s deputy on HWY 12 near the bottom of the Sauk Hill north of the intersection with Groth Road. The ambulance was pulled off to the side of the road and was still on fire. The ambulance crew was in the process of removing all occupants from the vehicle. Shortly after getting all occupants out, the ambulance did become full engulfed in flames. An ambulance from Sauk Prairie EMS did respond and continue the transport of the patient. A second Sauk Prairie ambulance did respond for a second occupant suffering from smoke inhalation. During this incident the southbound lanes of HWY 12 were shut down and traffic was diverted onto Ski High Road for approximately two hours.

Assisting the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were members of the Sauk City Fire Department, Sauk Prairie EMS, the Sauk County Highway Department and Everett’s Towing.
