Purpose

To deisgnate newspapers of publishing election notices

Background

Background:  Traditionally, the Sauk County Board of Supervisors has designated the newspapers in which election notices are published.  The County Clerk is required by statute to publish election notices in all qualified newspapers unless the county provides otherwise by resolution.   Wis. Stat. § 10.04(2)(a)&(b)

Publishing election notices in the official newspaper for the County will reach citizens in the Reedsburg, Spring Green, and Sauk Prairie areas.  By choosing an additional newspaper in which to publish election notices, the county will provide additional coverage for citizens not in those areas.  This is a fiscally responsible manner in which the county may publish in order to provide wider notice of elections.

Your Executive and Legislative Committee, in consultation with the Administrative Coordinator, Corporation Counsel, and County Clerk, has reviewed the options available for designating newspapers for election notices, and recommends election notices be published in the Official Newspaper for Sauk County, the Reedsburg Independent, and in the Baraboo News Republic.

Resolution Body

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Sauk County Board of Supervisors, met in regular session, that the Official Newspaper for the County, the Reedsburg Independent, and the Baraboo News Republic are designated the newspapers in which election notices shall be published, effective June 2018 - April, 2020.

For consideration by the Sauk County Board of Supervisors on June 19, 2018.

Respectfully submitted,

EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE:

Requested Board Review Date:
