Purpose

Background: The current reconstruction system is more than 10 years old.  We are unable to receive troubleshooting or maintenance on the current system as it is no longer supported.  The 2018 Sheriff’s Budget included $35,000 for the purchase of this new Reconstruction System.  Currently, the reconstruction team averages at least three (3) hours for the reconstruction of a scene which closes highways for the duration of the investigation.  The new system will reduce the scene investigation time by at least 50%.  The reduction in time not only opens the roadways quicker but also reduces the staffing time involved in the on-scene investigation.  The Total Station is a device used to measure crime scenes and serious/fatal accident scenes.  The reports generated from the Total Station and investigations are forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.  The new system is at State Bid price.  With State Bid price we are able to purchase the same system used by State Patrol which will allow interfaces between the different agencies. The pricing on the system includes the training of the staff for the use of the new system.
