The  Wisconsin Office of Outdoor Recreation is collecting data for a public facing app.  They have asked us to provide any recreation data we have to share.  Attached is the Data Sharing Agreement.

Please review and let me know if I can sign the agreement.

Data sharing agreement

Please review the data sharing agreement attached. Please enter your organization name where highlighted, sign, date, and return it to me as an attachment via email. If your organization has a data agreement that The Office of Outdoor Recreation will need to sign, please reply to this email attaching that agreement.

What data to share

Here are the general categories the project is interested in: I struck through certain items or made notes according to our discussion.

  1. Parks, recreation areas, managed forest land, land available for hunting (these might be polygons or points in an address layer etc.) [including campgrounds]
  2. Trails and Trailheads (for a variety of activities: hiking, biking, snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing etc.)
  3. Water Access (boat launches and ramps and any details you track about them)
  4. Fishing (anything not captured in the water access data such as piers or docs)
  5. Paddling (designated water trails, or named routes for canoeing, kayaking)
  6. Climbing (designated areas or routes)
  7. Ski Areas (hills, resorts, areas not captured in trails data) [in point of interest layer and with digitized runs]
  8. Swimming beaches (often as part of a point of interest or address layer, but also sometimes captured as an attribute in a park feature)
  9. Birding (specific locations that might draw birders)
  10. Points of Interest (waterfalls, historical markers, scenic overlooks etc.)

How to upload your data

Please include any meta data or contextual information you think we may find helpful.

The preferred format for sharing is a file geodatabase. Shapefiles, PDFs, CAD drawings, and other formats are welcome.

Please use a zip file when sharing a folder or more than one document.

You should receive an email inviting you to the FTP site to upload your data. You may also use this link: https://ftp-web.prowestgis.com/?u=CE32&p=3A2R

Note: On the ftp site, when uploading, after using drag and drop or browsing to add your files, they will appear in a new window - be sure to click upload a final time in that window.

Deadline

We ask that you upload your data within a week of receiving this email. If there is a reason you would like to share your data at a date further into the future, i.e. you have an ongoing collection project or expect updates to data in the near future please reply to this email to let us know of a general timeline that might work better for you. [I already have noted there are data updates you would like to make, and that the counsel review of the data agreement may also delay the data sharing process.]

Please reach out with any questions you may have. Many thanks for your participation in this exciting project.

Regards,

Emily
